
Traders in Onitsha, Anambra State, have thrown their weight behind Governor Chukwuma Soludo for a second term ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election.
The endorsement took place during the market’s 40th-anniversary celebration and was presided over by the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Mr Tochukwu Udeze.
During the endorsement, supported by business mogul Chief Joseph Ukeji, the Speaker emphasised that building Anambra State was a collective responsibility and that the people of Anambra must determine their leadership.
The traders expressed their support for Governor Soludo’s re-election bid, citing his achievements in security and governance.
Ukeji highlighted Governor Soludo’s accomplishments, including a significant reduction in kidnapping and violent crimes.
He praised the governor’s security measures and commitment to eliminating product adulteration in the market.

Speaking on behalf of the traders, Chairman of the Ogbaru Main Market, Ndubuisi Ochiogu praised Governor Soludo for his achievements in enhancing security and infrastructure, both of which have had a positive impact on the market community.
Ochiogu stressed the importance of continuing the progress initiated under Governor Soludo’s leadership for the betterment of Anambra State and Nigeria.
Ochiogu also highlighted his own accomplishments, noting that he has successfully restored security in the market, effectively addressing issues such as shop break-ins and theft of cash amounting to millions of naira.
Additionally, he mentioned that his administration has resolved outstanding debts totaling over N11 million with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) and has implemented solar-powered lighting for improved public safety.
In his commitment to further improvements, Ochiogu stated that the traders of the market have unanimously agreed that Governor Soludo should seek a second term based on his outstanding performance across all sectors.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Market, Evaristus Uba, and the President-General of the umbrella body of Anambra markets, Humphrey Anuna.
The endorsement signifies widespread support for Governor Soludo’s re-election among traders and business leaders in Anambra State.
