The Chairman of the State Technical Cmttee of Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) Anambra State Chapter, who doubles as member Southeast Steering Committee, Engr (Sir) Victor Meju has disclosed that time has come for Engineers to take over their row and eliminate quakes in the engineering sector.

Hon. Victor stated this during an interview with the press on the event of the inauguration of the Southeast Steering Committee at Aeodem Event Centre, Enugu State.

He said the inauguration is as part of COREN’s ongoing restructuring and expansion of regulatory oversight.

Hon Victor Meju stated that the committee aimed to strengthen COREN’s presence and effectiveness in the region, particularly in monitoring and enforcing engineering practices. “The inauguration is a key step in COREN’s efforts to address infrastructure failures and ensure that engineering practices adhere to global best standards.”

According to Engr. Victor, the Southeast Steering Committee will focus on engineering regulation, monitoring, and enforcement within the region. He said that the move is part of COREN’s broader restructuring and reform initiatives aimed at enhancing its operational framework and regulatory impact.

Speaking at the event the National President, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Engr. Prof. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar while inaugurating the members of the committee, said the aim was to strengthen collaboration with the government and the good people of the region.

“Our goal is to ensure that engineering practices adhere to global best standards, fostering sustainable development and excellence in the profession.” “This committee is a key organ for compliance and enforcement of all engineering related practices in the state, ” he said.

According to him,COREN is an agency entrusted by the Federal Government with the mandate to regulate the education, training, and practice of engineering in Nigeria.

Abubakar also commended the developmental strides of Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who was represented by the commissioner for works, Engr. Gerald C. Otiji, thanked him for his collaboration and partnership with the engineering body.

Responding on behalf of the committee, the Chairman of Steering committee, Engr. Ejikeme U. Mgbemena, assured the president and all stakeholders that he would raise the bar of professionalism.

Ejikeme also promised to ensure that engineering jobs were done by engineers in line with regulatory guidelines.
