AE-FUNAI Secures NUC Accreditation for 12 Academic programmes.

As part of its mandate of establishing minimum academic standard for all academic programmes taught in Nigerian Universities and also to accredit such programmes, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has accredited 12 academic programmes of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.

The Commission in line with its mandate had visited the university in 2024 for the purpose of accrediting the programmes, and the result released by the Commission in a memo dated 30th April, 2025 and signed by Engr. Abraham Chundusu, the Acting Director of Accreditation, shows that 11 of the programmes received full accreditation while the remaining one had interim accreditation status.

The fully accredited programmes include: Banking and Finance, Agriculture, Theatre Arts, Business Education, Education Biology, Education Chemistry and Education English & Literary Studies. Others are Education Mathematics, Education Physics, Physical and Health Education and Geology.

The only programme with interim accreditation status is Agribusiness and Management.Full accreditation is valid for 5 years while interim is valid for 2 years after which the prgramme will be revisited by the Commission.

Speaking on the result, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Sunday Elom commended the diligence of the Faculty members, whose activities played major roles during the accreditation exercise, and reiterated his commitment to academic excellence underscored through the accreditation of all the programmes of the university by the NUC and other relevant professional bodies, as he promised on assumption office in 2021.

Recall that in 2023 NUC accreditation exercise, which the result was released in 2024, the University also secured full accreditation status for 34 of its academic programmes and one with interim status. This was unprecedented in the history of the university.
